Inspirational Videos

I have chosen Ellie Goulding's Figure 8 as the editing and effects I found really interesting. She uses variety of shots like, extreme close-ups, close-ups, mid shots. I particularly like the beginning when she is walking across the floor and the shot is upside down as well as reversed, it is then flipped to the right way round but continuing to be reversed as well as looking like she is walking forwards. I thought this was effective as it fits with the narrative as well as the lyrics. I also think that a particular movement from one shot to another was a good effect this was when she was whipping her hair round on the bed and the transition to the next shot where she is on a chair and completes the whip. I think I am going to attempt this movement similarly in my Music Video Promo. She also uses a prop which recurs in most shots; a red piece of cloth which could symbolise the lyrics and link to the narrative.

Christina Aguilera's Ain't No Other Man is one of my inspirational videos due to her incorporation of 1930's and 1940's musical styles as well as setting it as the 20's/30's era. I thought that this was a memorable and appealing video, which proved effective and  attractive to her target audience. She states in the narrative an alter ego Baby Jane, a few artists like Nicki Minaj create alter ego's for there video's it seems to create another level for the audience. This video also includes band shots but in the "20's club" this effectively completed the 20's/30's theme.

Eminem's Without Me video I remembered as it's editing and animation features a number of scenarios built around its context. This included Eminem and Dr. Dre as parodies of comics in general, specifically Batman, Robin and Blade trying to save a child who bought a copy of The Eminem Show that has a Parental Advisory sticker. The animation stood out for me as it was entertaining and different from other videos similar. It's inspired me to think about perhaps using animation or an element of it in my Music promo as it could help complete it. features a number of scenarios built around its context. 1. • Work on your analysis - aim to expand ideas so that you identify the technical elements used in each promo and comment on their use / impact / meaning.
    • You need to show more evidence of your understanding of what the conventions of a promo are – focus on the technical aspects – camera, editing, mise-en-scene, narrative / performance. Add this after you have analysed some examples of promos.
    • Post and reflect on your prelim – what have you learnt from it?
    • Overall this is just into L2 / L3 D / C at present – focus on developing specific examples to analyse / explore conventions. Make sure your evidence is comprehensive and detailed. Focus on achieving this when you provide evidence of the conventions of your genre.
